Starting in the 1950s, Holset played an important role in the advance of turbochargers in commercial diesel engines. In 1954, the brand received a license from Dr. Alfred Büchi, the inventor of the turbocharger, to produce his designs. Cooperation with Caterpillar, Cummins and later Schwitzer soon followed, further strengthening Holset's position in the international market. In 1973, the millionth Holset turbo rolled off the production line - a milestone that confirmed the brand's reputation as a leading manufacturer.
